ETC when you understand these things you can understand how wireshark is useful.Capturing packets, or sniffing them from networks using relatively lightweight probes and monitoring tools, has long been one of the most common ways to uncover issues on the network. ![]() ![]() My advise is go to your local college or online class or read and understand IPv6 and IPv4, TCP IP, OSI layers, What is a Packet? How information is sent thru the internet, Networking. It is a packet capturing tool which is used for analysis. So your going to have understand terminology and the way IP addressing works and OSI model. I mean I can go on and on about what you can do with it. Something as simple as getting SSID or ip address of something, or to even rebuild web pages visited by targets. It lets you analysis packets for all sorts of reason. In a nutshell wireshark is a "Packet Capturing" tool in other words it is a tool you use to MONITOR NETWORK TRAFFIC and gather the information from that monitoring and use the information to do all sorts of things depending on your roll weather malicious or good. I can explain step for step in one scenario for 1 objective but it will 99% of the time be different in one way or another trying to complete said objective on another target. It would take me way to long to explain step for step how to do anything with wire shark and you will never find any exact situation so your going to have to learn what wireshark is and what it does. People use it to learn network protocol internals QA engineers use it to verify network applicationsÄevelopers use it to debug protocol implementations Network security engineers use it to examine security problems Network administrators use it to troubleshoot network problems ![]() Here are some reasons people use Wireshark:
